Aiming for Excellence Through Faith and Learning

Our History

Our school patron, Alice Ingham was born on the 8th of March 1830 and lived with her parents, five brothers and her sister in Yorkshire Street, Rochdale.

With the guidance of Bishop Vaughan, Alice started a religious order with her friends and would visit and help the sick and the poor. In 1883 they started the Franciscan Missionaries of St Joseph and Alice became known as Mother Francis.

It was soon after this that Bishop Vaughan asked Mother Francis and her sisters to help him look after the children in the Salford Diocese. The Sisters provided support for Rochdale and Salford’s orphans, poor, sick and the dying and soon became known as the rescue society. Alice died in 1890.
